Stylespiration! Joan Holloway

Va-Va Voom Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta Jones)
My make up and hair changes with my mood and primarily with what I'm watching and being influenced by. I went through a stage of adoring the dark hair and dark smoky eyes I was looking at when I watched Chicago (repeatedly) I went a little bit vamp for about a month. The gorgeous Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta Jones) in full on bad girl smoulder, I love her make up, and her bob.

Recently I did my 'Shake up your Make-up' posts where I pointed out that I rarely wore eye-liner, I'm all about the smudgy brown shadows but oh how that has changed.

Joan Holloway (Christina Hendricks)
I have started watching Mad Men and am filled with deep seated envy of Christina Hendricks. Her character Joan seemingly has influenced my style recently more than I realised. I noticed it earlier today when all of my recent pictures are full of eye-liner and red lips.

The thing about Joan is she is an utter sexpot (I love that phrase), beautiful curves, unbelievable proportions, flame red hair and just the most gorgeous milk white skin. I am awash with jealousy. I don't think it is co-incidence that my hair has gotten very bright red recently. I've also picked up some much lighter foundations to play with and create that flawless milky look.

Me trying out my pin up pose (derp)
It is a tough one, I've been using a few products I'll be reviewing soon. One of which is 17 Blemish Balm, which is supposed to even skin tones (its a primer with concealer and SPF 25). I'll come back to that in another post. So I've been lightening the lotions, lining the eyes and firing up the hair. Giving it my best sass, I don't know how well I'm pulling it off but hell I'm giving it a go.

I'm quite liking the eye-liner. Would you believe me it is an absolute cheapo from Collection 2000 that I bought on a whim, it stays on amazingly well and goes on brilliantly. It is a pen rather than a brush. I'm a big fan of the pen liner, I think it is much easier to get a lovely straight line than with a brush. It also seems to allow for more creativity with the line and the design of the liner.

Needless to say it is a really good buy. So for any of you who aren't really au fait with eye-liner it might be a good place to start. Low cost, decent accuracy and a good durability. It has a felt tip pen applicator and dries almost instantly, with very little rub off. It is worth a purchase for those of you dubious.

So tune back in folks, goodness knows what will happen to me when I start watching Battlestar Galactica.
