Marks and Spencer have recently launched their own range of eau de parfums called Sentiments de la Vie. There are three fragrances to choose from, Love, Delight and Passion. I chose Passion as it had bergamot in it and I love bergamot in perfumes. For those of you who are curious, bergamot is a citrus so you get lots of orangey freshness, I wore Gucci Rush for years because it is so fresh and zingy.
Passion is made up of bergamot, gardenia, sandalwood and patchouli, when I read the ingredients I was expecting a warm floral. Gardenia is a floral scent, sometimes it can be a little bit overpowering if it is placed with other heavy florals. The sandalwood notes are warm and create an oriental woody fragrance. There's a green topnote with sandalwood but it is a warm spicy fragrance. Patchouli is another sweet woody oriental fragrance.
So what does it smell like?
Well when you put it together it's an oriental spicy floral, it's soft and overtly floral initially but when it settles into the skin the sandalwood comes through and the gardenia takes a back seat. It is an alluring and sweet scent, but not overpoweringly so. The woody base and the zing from the bergamot stops it from being too sweet, instead it's a more rounded scent; initial floral, then citrus wood.
Fans of Miss Dior by Dior, Black Orchid by Tom Ford, Oscar by Oscar de la Renta may benefit from giving this a sniff as it has the same notes as these scents. It's also quite a bargain at £19.50 for a 50ml Eau de Parfum, check them out when you're next in Marks and Spencer.
